Rapid City Panorama 1914-2009 :

Rapid City Panorama 1914-2009

Rapid City Fire Dept. 1931 - 2009 : On Feb. 8, 1931, Rise Studio took a panoramic photograph of the Rapid City Fire Department in front of the fire hall. 78 years later, the process was repeated (by Paul Horsted) at the same place, on the same date in 2009. From a special request by members of the Rapid City Fire Department, there are 2 variations of the combined images, one with names on today's firefighters, and one without the names. (Click on the large photo to see a super-large version).

PLEASE READ if you are ordering a print here: As you go to checkout, you must choose "NO CROP" in the shopping cart which follows. Because the unusual, long shape of this panoramic image does not fit standard photo sizes, it is normal to have white space above and below the image area. This can be trimmed off prior to framing. IF YOU ARE IN DOUBT, please email Paul at horsted@dakotaphoto.com, or call him at 605-673-3685, he can assist you.

Two sizes of prints are available: 11x24 inch print (printed on 16x24 paper), for $85., or 17x36 inch print (printed on 24x36 paper) for $180. You may choose glossy or matte (semi-gloss) surface. The prints ship directly from the custom print lab we use to your address; normal service is about a week but expedited shipping is available.

If you have any questions, please email Paul Horsted at horsted@dakotaphoto.com or you can call Paul at 605-673-3685 during normal business hours.

Paul Horsted would like to thank the Rapid City Fire Department for making this historic "Yesterday & Today" image possible! A huge copy of these photos was donated to the Fire Department and now hangs at the main headquarters in Rapid City if you'd like to stop by and see it.

Crossing the Plains with Custer: Samples from the book : To ORDER THIS BOOK, click here: http://dakotaphoto.com/Pages/books.html

"Crossing the Plains with Custer", is an ALL-NEW companion volume to the earlier book "Exploring With Custer". This new book follows the route of the Custer Expedition as it traveled from Ft. Lincoln (near Bismarck, North Dakota) some 300 miles to the Black Hills (in South Dakota), as well as the return route across the plains. It is authored by Paul Horsted, Ernest Grafe, and Jon Nelson.

The book features day-by-day accounts written by the explorers from diaries, official reports, and newspaper stories. More than 180 full-color photos show places where Custer's wagon train passed; GPS coordinates are provided to guide you to many locations along public roads. A special section includes dozens of artifacts found at Expedition campsites on private property; these were photographed from several private and public collections.

Just like "Exploring with Custer" (see http://tinyurl.com/ExploringwithCuster ), the new book is 8.5x11 inches in size and has been designed to match the earlier volume. It has 336 pages.
